Bangor Business Awards

The Frying Squad win position as finalists in this years Best Eating Establishment Award. Wednesday 2nd May saw the elite of local business come together for the 7th Bangor Business Awards. The evening began with President of the Bangor Chamber of Commerce, Evan Ward, thanking everyone for the tremendous turnout and said, “The awards are all about achieving excellence in business in our local community. We believe that this should be rewarded and that those people who put something extra into their business should be acknowledged. Hence the awards we have run now for seven years” Due to the significant number of entries into this year’s Best Eating Establishment Award, this category was divided into two, - table service and counter service. The Frying Squad were very proud to be nominated as a finalist in this award.

Seafish Friers Quality Award

The Frying Squad won the Seafish Friers Quality Award in 2005 and 2006. Shops holding the Seafish Friers Quality Award is nationally recognised for producing first class fish and chips in a first class environment.

An approved inspector checks the shop's image, design and condition, selection of raw materials (fish, potatoes, oils, etc.), storage, hygiene and cleaning, product care, handling and temperature control, packaging, quality of the final product, management systems, training and skills. The award lasts for one year and is renewed if high standards are maintained. more

Eat Safe Award

The Frying Squad were the first fish and chip in N.Down to win this prestigious award in 2005, and they have since since retained it for 2006/2007. It is administered by local council Environmental Health Services (EHS) in conjunction with the Food Standards Agency in both Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The main aim of the scheme is to provide an incentive to caterers to strive for food hygiene and food safety management standards beyond those required by law. It will also help consumers make informed choices about where to eat out by providing a recognisable 'sign' of excellence in standards of food hygiene. more
